NAB Advocacy Alert: Performance Tax Legislation Introduced in Congress
On November 21, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (TN) and Rep. Jerry Nadler (NY-10) introduced the AM-FM Act, legislation that would impose a performance tax on local radio stations.
While the big record labels aggressively lobby for a performance tax on local radio stations simply for airing and promoting artists’ music, we will continue to grow the number of bipartisan cosponsors of the Local Radio Freedom Act, a resolution that opposes a performance tax and recognizes the critical role local radio plays in every community. The resolution has reached 201 cosponsors in the House and 25 in the Senate. Once the number of House cosponsors reaches 218, we will have secured a majority of the House on the Local Radio Freedom Act, which will pose a significant hurdle for record labels to move performance tax legislation.
Help protect your station from a crippling new performance tax so you can keep investing in the communities you serve by garnering congressional support for the Local Radio Freedom Act. Click here to find out if your legislators support this resolution and ask them to stand up for local radio!
